Practical Horseman Editorial Coordinator - Posted November 5, 2009
The editorial coordinator is responsible for overseeing the administrative functions of the magazine in the Gaithersburg, Md., office, writing certain departments and providing organizational assistance to the editors and art director for Practical Horseman.

  • Major duties/responsibilities: Oversee monthly billing and budget sheets; Procure contracts for all photos/articles; Oversee/write specific departments; Help write Web cross-promotions; Log/track/return photos; Collect/route mail; File copyright certificates for magazines; Proofread; Attend department meetings; Perform additional administrative duties as needed; Answer general telephone calls/correspondence; Take apart monthly story boxes, file paperwork; Send out monthly complimentary issues.
  • Skills needed: Bachelor’s degree in Journalism/English; Strong organization skills; ability to be focused and efficient while multi-tasking; Excellent communication skills; Initiative to ensure that administrative duties are handled in timely manner; Ability to work independently but be a team player; Familiarity with Mac computers and Microsoft Office; InDesign knowledge preferred.
