May 31, 2014 — The young U.S. team, composed of four riders, all under the age of 25, produced a sixth-place finish in Friday’s Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup at CSIO3* Lisbon. Under the guidance of Chef d’Equipe DiAnn Langer, the team of Catherine Pasmore, Alise Oken, Abigail McArdle, and Jessica Springtseen finished on a two-round total of 32.
Pasmore (Wellington, Fla.) and Pasmore Stable’s 13-year-old Belgian Warmblood gelding, Bonanza Van Paemel, got the U.S. off to a strong start in round one, jumping faultlessly as the first American in the ring. Up next for the U.S. was Oken (Charlotte, N.C.) and Hi Hopes Farm, LLC’s Teirra, who jumped an eight-fault round in the afternoon session after the 14-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare rolled poles at the second fence and 8B. Jumping in the third spot and riding David McArdle’s 12-year-old Belgian Warmblood Cade, McArdle (Wellington, Fla.) produced a 20-fault trip in the first round. Rounding out the American effort in round one was Springsteen (Colts Neck, N.J.) and Stone Hill Farm’s 13-year-old Irish Sport Horse mare, Lisona, producing an eight fault trip after lowering rails at fences three and 10.
The U.S. headed into the second round on a score of 16 in eighth place.
In the evening session, both Oken and McArdle produced improved efforts. Oken led the U.S. effort in round two, jumping an immaculate clear to add nothing to the U.S.’s total in round two. With McArdle drawing on her experience from round one to produce a 12-fault round. In the second round, both Pasmore and Springsteen jumped eight-fault rounds after lowering fences three and 12, and three and 5B, respectively.
France emerged victorious on a total of eight faults, with Brazil and Morocco finishing tied for second on 12 faults.
