About 90% of the shows I go to now use rope gates. It's just two jump standards with a rope between then. That's about all you see at the breed shows any more (I'm guessing because it's easier to come up with, transport, etc.) Go look at the trail class proofs from some of the major shows at www.kcmontgomery.com

You can also keep your horse tuned up for gate work by just practicing the movements he needs to know for that obstacle--sidepassing, pivoting front and hind ends, etc.
