Jim Wofford’s Rider Critiques from 2009 Rolex Kentucky

Buck Davidson is right where he wants to be: He is sitting poised in the middle of Ballynoe Castle RM's motion, and after years as an "also-ran," he is poised to place well (which he does, finishing third with his second horse, My Boy Bobby). His newfound fitness is a big part of his success, because it has allowed his innate athleticism to resurface. Buck's stirrup leather is vertical and adjusted correctly for cross-country riding. His back is flat, and his eyes are fixed on the next element. Because of his correct lower leg, his touch on the reins is positive yet sympathetic. You can't have soft hands unless you have a solid lower-leg position.
