Training your eyes to focus on the jumps can help you arrive at the correct takeoff spot.

4. We arrive at the second pole at a comfortable takeoff spot (though she's shifted a little to the right). I continue riding the rest of the course this way: restoring my canter, then focusing on the glove. Afterward, I evaluate how most of the distances worked out. If I seem to be repeating the same mistake, I make one subtle change and ride the course again.
