WEG: S. Tucker S. Johnson – U.S. Driving

S. Tucker S. Johnson has been driving away with top honors nationally and internationally for over a decade. In 1990, Johnson won the Pairs Division title at the Royal Windsor Horse Show in England. Johnson has twice represented the USET in the World Pairs Championships, in 1993 and in 1991 when he helped the USET win the team Gold medal in Zwettl, Austria.

The final cones phase is Johnson’s forte, and as a result he’s been dubbed the “King of Cones.” He has won the USET Four-In-Hand Championship five times including a record four consecutive–in 1997, 1998, 1999 and 2000.

Johnson represented the United States in the World Four-In-Hand Championships in 1994, 1998 and 2000. In 1998, he was the top U.S. finisher with an impressive fifth-place finish. That year, he was named USET Athlete of the Month in both August and October and was named Driving Horseman of the Year by the Chronicle of the Horse. He followed that up with another strong year in 1999 when he finished as the third-ranked driver on the FEI World Four-In-Hand rankings.

In 2000, Johnson finished seventh in the World Four-In-Hand Championships and he ended the year ranked number two on the FEI World Four-In-Hand rankings.

Johnson was honored by the USET as the 2001 recipient of the Whitney Stone Cup for his distinguished record in international competition while also serving as an ambassador for the USET and equestrian sports. Also in 2001, Johnson placed second in the USET Four-In-Hand Driving Championship at the Fair Hill International in Fair Hill, MD.

In 2002, Johnson won the Four-In-Hand Dressage phase during CHIO Aachen on his way to an overall individual fifth place finish. He then placed second at CAIO-CAIP-A Breda, leading the US to a second place team finish. Johnson also won the USET Selection Trials at Live Oak CDE.
