WEG: Sally Ike – Jumping Team Leader

Sally Ike competed internationally for the United States Equestrian Team in Three-Day Eventing. She was named the USET’s Director of Three-Day Eventing and Show Jumping Activities in 1989. Since August 1993, Ike has devoted her energy to show jumping only, and is responsible for overseeing and planning all aspects of USET Show Jumping activities.

Ike was Chef d’Mission at the 1994 World Equestrian Games in The Hague, Holland, and Co-Chef d’Mission at the 1998 World Equestrian Games in Rome, Italy. She has also served as Co-Team Leader at the 1990 World Equestrian Games (Stockholm), 1992 Olympic Games (Barcelona), 1995 Pan American Games (Buenos Aires), 1996 Olympic Games (Atlanta), 1999 Pan American Games (Winnipeg), and 2000 Olympic Games (Sydney). She was the Team Leader for the 1990-2001 Show Jumping World Cup Finals and the Chef d’Equipe for the Show Jumping teams at the National Horse Show in 1990 and 1991.

Ike is a past member of the AHSA Combined Training Committee, and a current member of USA Equestrian’s Drugs and Medications Committee and Jumper Committee. She is an FEI Steward for Show Jumping and Three-Day Eventing, as well as a USAE Combined Training Judge and Technical Delegate, and Jumper Judge. A Pony Club graduate A, Ike has been a Governor of the U.S. Pony Clubs, District Commissioner of the Somerset Hills Pony Club and Regional Supervisor for the New Jersey Region. She has also served as secretary of the Essex Fox Hounds in New Jersey and is active in the Eastern States Dressage and Combined Training Association.

A member of the 1968 Three-Day Event squad for the Olympic Games, Ike was also Delaware Valley Ladies Point to Point Champion in 1972 and 1973. In addition to her racing and eventing experience, she has competed successfully in the hunter, dressage and jumper divisions.

In addition, she has designed show jumping courses primarily for combined training since the mid ’70s, including the Fair Hill CCI***, Radnor CCI**, the 1996 Olympic Games Final Selection Trials, the 1995 and 1999 Pan American Games Selection Trials, the North American Young Riders’ Championship, and the Essex Horse Trials. Ike lives in Oldwick, NJ. She has two daughters–Beth, 27 and Sara, 25.
