Schmersal Wins 2005 FEI World Reining Masters

U.S. reiners Craig Schmersal and Tim McQuay claimed the gold and silver medals, respectively, in the open division of the FEI World Reining Masters Finals on September 24.

Sept. 30, 2005 — Craig Schmersal, riding Tidal Wave Jack, earned a score of 231.5 to win the open division of the $100,000 FEI World Reining Masters Finals in Manerbio, Italy, on September 24. Schmersal performed NRHA pattern No. 5 to perfection with the powerful nine-year-old bay stallion by Hollywood Macho Jac and out of Tidal Mist Cody.

The silver medal went to the all-time money earner in the National Reining Horse Association, Tim McQuay. McQuay, who boasts more than $1.9 million in earnings, rode Mister Montana Nic, owned by the Montana Nic Syndicate, for a score of 224.

Mister Montana Nic is a seven-year-old stallion by Reminic and out of Mollie Montana with over $100,000 in lifetime earnings.

Steffen Breug of Germany riding Mercury Starlight, a seven-year-old stallion by Grays Starlight and out of Dox Lady Amhurst earned the bronze with a score of 223.

In the $25,000 restricted Ddvision, Swiss rider Jeannette Krahenbuhl and Arc Golden Boy (Surprise Enterprise x Arc Topsail Lady) earned the gold medal with a score of 221.5 in the prestigious FEI competition.

With a half-point difference, Bernard Fonk of Belgium claimed the silver medal riding One Fine Remedy owned by François Verschueren. Brazilian Jango Salgado earned the bronze medal aboard the seven-year-old stallion Gizmo Whiz.

The second edition of the $100,000 FEI World Reining Masters Series, presented by the Arcese Group and the Italian Equestrian Sports Federation (FISE), was an event organized in collaboration with the Italian Reining Horse Association (IRHA), the National Reining Horse Association (NRHA), the Reining Horse Sports Foundation (RHSF) and the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA).
