Updated December 24, 2009, with location change and public schedule! November 6, 2009 — The George H. Morris Horsemastership Training Session to develop future U.S. Equestrian Team members will be held January 5-9, 2010, in Wellington, Fla. The mounted sessions will be held in the International/Grand Prix Ring on the North Grounds of the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center. The classroom style presentations will be held in the Blue Ribbon Club.

George Morris, the legendary horseman and chef d’équipe of the Olympic gold medal show-jumping team in 2009 in Hong Kong, will lead a select group of top young riders in a comprehensive program in horsemastership not just involving mounted sessions but also sessions conducted by experts on such topics as stable management, veterinary care and nutrition. The aim of the training session is to develop a pipeline of young “horsemasters” for future U.S. Equestrian Teams.

The eligible riders for the 2010 session are Jacqueline Lubrano, Jessica Springsteen, Zazou Hoffman, Christy Distefano, Tina Dilandri, Matthew Metell, Theodore Boris, Jennifer Waxman, Reed Kessler and Chase Boggio. The riders were invited based on their national equitation computer ranking and performance.

Auditing of the educational sessions is free and open to the public, as are the coffee and doughnuts provided each morning.

The training session is supported by the EQUUS Foundation, the Syracuse Invitational Sporthorse Tournament, the U.S. Equestrian Federation, the U.S. Hunter Jumper Association, the U.S. Equestrian Team Foundation, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Equestrian Sports Productions, Practical Horseman magazine and Purina Mills.
