Feb. 9, 2005 — In 2003 jump course designer Richard Jeffery of Dorsett, UK, set a record at the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) when he was named Course Designer of the Year on six separate occasions. In 2004 Jeffery added to that winning streak, receiving the Mr. and Mrs. William C. Cox Memorial Trophy for a seventh time. Jeffery won the title in 1989, 1990, 1994, 1999, 2002, 2003 and 2004.
“He sets a pretty tough precedent to follow,” said USEF President David O’Connor. “It couldn’t go to a more talented designer. Richard continually raises the bar for course design. He has class, in and out of the competition ring.”
Jeffery was the FEI course designer for the 2004 Washington International Horse Show. Other courses designed by Jeffery during the 2004 season include Littlewood Farm Pre-Festival, Lexington Spring Premiere, Kentucky Spring Preview, Kentucky Spring, Ox Ridge Charity, I Love New York, Kentucky Summer Horse Show, Kentucky Summer Classic, Kentucky Hunter-Jumper Association, The Jumper Classic and the New Albany Classic.
The Course Designer of the Year title is determined annually by eligible U.S. competitors on the Grand Prix Jumping Circuit. The accompanying trophy, donated in 1958 by the Cox family, memorializes Mr. and Mrs. William C. Cox, who were ardent supporters of grand prix jumping in the U.S. The award was formally presented on Jan. 14 during the 2005 USEF annual meeting in Louisville, Ky.
Jeffery Claims Seventh Course Designer of Year Title
