One Horse at a Time

Information provided by Cavallo Horse & Rider
Written by Carole Herder, President of Cavallo Horse & Rider

As president of Cavallo Horse & Rider, one of the best parts of my job is hearing the interesting stories from customers regarding the care and progress of their horses' hooves. Some are funny, some are sad, and some are downright heartbreaking.

Through these tales, I've come to understand our patron very well. In fact, I personify her. Specific histories may vary, but our collective intention and basic characteristics are very similar.

I have a deep passion for this industry, and the women and men I serve, because in my heart of hearts, I know we're all the same in our love for our horses. Our horses serve as our best friends, our solace, comfort, outlet, joy, and emotional support.

When we're with our horses, everything else drifts away like feathers on a breeze. We forget the bills, the groceries, the job, the extra weight, or the too busy lifestyle.  Our horses are our partners, and we'll do everything to ensure their comfort and safety, even if it means foregoing new jeans, a truck payment, or even a meal.

We're powerful, independent thinkers, and our horses give us the strength to walk the talk and travel down the less-trodden trail. We gravitate to natural, holistic health care for ourselves, our families, and our horses.

We don't adhere to doctrines just because they've always existed. We question. We seek. We want to know. And we're not afraid. We want to do the best we can by our horses. We owe them that for all they do for us.

In my opinion, keeping our horses barefoot just makes sense. The idea of nailing metal into my horse's feet has always seemed repulsive to me. Now that I have a viable option, I'm embracing it.

Here at Cavallo, we've researched and done our homework. We understand that to leave metal shoeing behind, we have to find good trimmers or learn to trim ourselves. We know we must exercise our horses, and consider terrain and socialization.

Above all, if we want to ride our naturally barefoot horses, we must have good hoof boots that are easy to put on, provide comfort and protection while riding, and don't come off while we're on the trail.

We understand that applications for hoof boots include protecting property, protecting horses when they play together, protection during breeding, protection during transport, serving as a veterinary aid for injuries or poultices, and serving as a spare tire for a lost shoe.

However, our primary purpose for hoof boots is so we can ride horses comfortably through all terrain at any speed.

We've researched the various types of hoof boots, and we've found that Cavallo is the very best. We love the ease of use, the comfort for our horses, and the quality of construction and materials.

We're now crusaders of sorts, because we're so happy with the path we've chosen that we want to share it with family and friends. We gravitate to people who are like-minded and thoughtful. These are the people with whom we share our success with the barefoot movement and our delight with Cavallo.

It was a lonely path at first. We were seen as outcasts in the eyes of some. We let that be, because we knew that sooner or later the penny would drop and people all over the world would begin to understand the developments in hoof care. It's happening now.

We're proud members of the Barehoof Community, striving to make a difference, while keeping it simple—one horse at a time.
