When you're building a Western show clothes wardrobe, you're faced with a list of basic clothes to assemble: headwear, boots, riding pants and top, at the very least. And as we show in "Beauty on a Budget" (Horse & Rider, July 2010), how you select those basics and how you combine them makes or breaks the overall impression your outfit creates.
Here's a look at the details of how we made over a local-level exhibitor's turnout without spending very much money.
Before (above): Our model's an attractive showgirl, but her too-big hat brim hides her face. Her whispy ponytail looks messy, and her post earrings are too small to add pizzazz from a distance. Her cotton top's open neckline looks too casual without a piece of jewelry to draw attention to her face, and she needs a brighter lipstick color to help highlight her confident smile.
