Description: The Horse-O-Meter not only registers how far you ride, but also works as a stopwatch and clock. The meter clips onto a breastcollar, just off your horse's shoulder blade. The horse's shoulder action is measured as a "stride," and strides add up to miles.
The test: The horse meter was tested by Consulting Editor Bonnie Davis. "This useful meter is small, compact, and easy to drop in shirt pocket or saddlebag," says Davis. "It did take me a few trips to program correctly, though." On the upside, she notes that when correctly attached to your horse's breastcollar, you'll be able to monitor distance from your horse's back. But she adds a caveat: "The safety string is a little short for looping around wide, two-inch breastcollars. Be sure to wrap the little safety string around the breastcollar, and tie it, so it won't get lost if it comes loose."
