Never be in a hurry to move off from the mounting block. Always just wait for a moment after you’re up and pet your horse. Teaching your horse to stand at the mounting block is nothing more than developing a habit. If your habit is to move off quickly, the horse will develop the unsettling tendency to move off before you’re really in the saddle. If you always just wait a bit, the horse will be content to stand until you’re completely ready.
