Breyer?? to Unveil New “Sapphire” Model Horse at Old Salem Farm Spring Horse Shows

May 17, 2010–Breyer Animal Creations?? is excited to announce that it will be unveiling its newest creation, a portrait model of the Belgian show jumper mare Sapphire, at the 2010 Old Salem Farm Spring Horse Shows. Breyer?? selected Sapphire to be the focus of its most recent creation based on her hugely successful career with rider McLain Ward.

The unveiling will take place at Old Salem Farm on Saturday, May 22, during the exhibitor ice cream party at approximately 3:30 pm. In attendance will be Ward, as well as representatives from Breyer.

In addition, there will be a raffle to win a free Sapphire model. Raffle tickets are just $1.00 and can be purchased at the horse show. All proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the Equestrian Aid Foundation. Ward will draw the lucky winner’s name at the unveiling on Saturday.

For those who don’t win, but are still interested in being among the first to own the new Sapphire model horse, Breyer will have pre-order forms available at the show. The forms will allow you to purchase the new Sapphire model, and have it shipped directly to your home.

Ward, a native of Brewster, NY, and a regular competitor at the Old Salem Farm Spring Horse Shows, rode Sapphire to Team Gold Medals at both the 2004 Athens and 2008 Hong Kong Olympic Games. Following the pair’s 2008 Gold Medal performance, they went on to win three consecutive Grand Prix events at the 2009 Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF); the $150,000 CN CSIO Grand Prix, the $200,000 FEI World Cup Grand Prix CSI 4*, and the $400,000 FTI Consulting CSI 5* Grand Prix. The following year, at the 2010 Winter Equestrian Festival, Ward and Sapphire defended their title in the Consulting Finale Grand Prix CSI 5* and claimed the victory for a second time.

In addition, the pair finished second at the 2009 FEI Rolex World Cup Finals in Las Vegas in one of the most dramatic finishes in World Cup history. Ward later went on to make history aboard Sapphire when he won the FTI $250,000 Grand Prix for a record fourth time at the 2009 Hampton Classic. Also in 2009 the pair won the $1,000,000 CN International Grand Prix at Spruce Meadows in Calgary, Canada.

The 2010 Old Salem Farm Spring Horse Shows feature the $40,000 Old Salem Farm Grand Prix, $75,000 Empire State Grand Prix, $25,000 North Salem Grand Prix, as well as a $15,000 Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic part of the Cavalor Show Jumping Hall of Fame Jumper Classic Series, $5,000 Devoucoux Hunter Derby, $10,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby, and the $10,000 Cavalor Leading Hunter Rider Award.
