Want to donate your time and/or money to a worthy equine organization? Here is a list of associations that will put your funding to good use.
AAEPFoundation – The mission of the American Association of Equine Practitioners is to improve the health and welfare of the horse, to further the professional development of its members, and to provide resources and leadership for the benefit of the equine industry. The focus is on equine veterinarians, veterinary students, horse owners, and industry groups/media.
American Horse Defense Fund – The American Horse Defense Fund’s (AHDF) mission is to facilitate the protection, conservation, and humane treatment of members of all Equine species. AHDF works to address inhumane treatment of horses, ponies, donkeys, mules and burros, both wild and domesticated through education, advocacy and litigation when necessary in the state, federal and international arenas.
American Paint Horse Foundation — The Foundation uses the ?Power of Paints? to improve our world. The Foundation also preserves the heritage of the American Paint Horse and ensures it remains a healthy, vibrant and respected part of our culture. The American Paint Horse Foundation:
– fosters positive youth development;
– promotes healthy lifestyles;
– improves lives and communities through interaction with Paint Horses;
– instills pride in the heritage of the American Paint Horse and our association;
– funds research that ensures the health and vitality of the American Paint Horse.
American Quarter Horse Foundation — The Foundation has four areas of emphasis. Equine research has given over $6 million in research funds to skilled researchers and veterinarians. It has given more than $3 million to 900 students and 200 scholarships each year. It supports the AQHA Hall of Fame that preserves the history and legacy of the Quarter Horse. And it supports organizations that help “special” people to ride on a quarter horse.
Arabian Horse Trust — The Purebred Arabian Trust exists for the purpose of aiding, promoting, and fostering the preservation and use of purebred Arabian horses and the Arabian breed and to engage in undertakings incidental to or designed to further promote these objectives. Underlying this purpose is the intent to guarantee that the purebred Arabian horse, the purebred registry, the historical pedigree database and the operating system that runs the purebred Arabian Registry is protected and preserved for future generations.
Certified Horsemanship Association (CHA) — The purpose of CHA is to promote excellence in safety and education for the benefit of the entire horse industry. This is accomplished by certifying instructors, accrediting equine facilities and publishing educational resources.
EAGALA ((Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association) ?Founded in July 1999, the Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association (EAGALA) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization developed to address the need for resources, education, and professionalism in Equine Assisted Psychotherapy and Equine Assisted Learning. Creating a more professional field and promoting it to the general public is a large task. EAGALA strives to educate the public that EAP/L is more than horsemanship and riding classes.
Equine Land Conservation Resource — Loss of open land has been identified as the greatest threat to the future of all equestrian sport, recreation, and industry. By educating horse people and encouraging partnerships with conservationists and other user groups at the local level, the Equestrian Land Conservation Resource is mobilizing thousands of equestrians to work for land access and protection in their communities. We recognize that without such concerted efforts, the horse world, as we know it, is at great risk.
EQUUS Foundation Inc. — The EQUUS Foundation was established as a charity to raise public awareness of the value of horses in society through education and grant awards It serves horse charities by: educating the public about horses, providing fundraising support through the award of grants, offering insight on management and financial practices of these charities through a thorough review of their operations, and providing a network of interested individuals for volunteer recruitment.
Hooved Animal Humane Society — The Hooved Animal Humane Society (HAHS) is an organization founded in 1971 by six concerned and committed citizens. It is HAHS? mission to promote the humane treatment of hooved animals through education, legislation, investigation and if necessary, legal intervention (impoundment). In addition, it provides physical rehabilitation to animals that have endured severe neglect and abuse and then adopt them out to compassionate forever homes.
Horse Protection League — The Horse Protection League at Churches Ranch was formed in 1994. It is a non-profit organization dedicated to the welfare of horses, ponies, donkeys and mules in the greater Rocky Mountain Region. Located near Arvada and Golden, HPL is supported and run entirely by volunteer members who love and cherish the horse.
Horses & Humans Research Foundation — The Foundation is dedicated to facilitating universal understanding and appreciation of the significant influence of horses on humans. Its goal is to promote research that will 1) Benefit special program participants by improving equine assisted activity best practices; 2) Educate the public, including professional affiliates, regarding the value and benefits of horses and equine assisted activities.
Morris Animal Foundation — MAF funds research studies that help protect, treat, and cure animals. In fact, it is the world’s largest nonprofit foundation 501(c)(3) dedicated to funding research studies to protect, treat and cure animals. Helping animals across the world MAF has been at the forefront of funding health breakthroughs that have helped animals on all seven continents. US
NARHA ? a 501c3, NARHA was formed in 1969 as the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association. Its mission is to promote equine assisted activities and therapies for individuals with special needs. In 800 member centers in North America and around the globe, 42,000 adults find physical and mental well-being plus a sense of independence through involvement with equines. More than 30,000 volunteers and thousands of contributors are involved.
United States Equestrian Team Foundation — The United States Equestrian Team Foundation supports equestrian athletes, promotes international excellence, and builds for the future of equestrian sports. The disciplines supported by the Foundation are dressage, driving, endurance, eventing, para-equestrian, reining, show jumping and vaulting. The USET Foundation’s role is to help provide funding for the High Performance competition, training, coaching, travel and educational needs of America’s elite and developing athletes and horses in partnership with the United States Equestrian Federation.
