On Oct. 10, singer and songwriter Lyle Lovett will perform at the closing ceremonies of the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games in Lexington, Kentucky. Known for incorporating many genres into his music, from country and folk ballads to gospel and blues, the 4-time Grammy Award winner and his Large Band will play the concluding notes of the WEG’s final celebration. Lovett’s musical career has produced nearly 30 years of hits, including “Nobody Knows Me,” “South Texas Girl,” “That’s Right (You’re Not from Texas),” “She’s No Lady,” and his well-known country single “Cowboy Man.” On his most recent album, Natural Forces, released last year, Lovett sings a poignant line that speaks to his equestrian spirit: “Home is where my horse is.” Lovett’s connection to the games isn’t limited to the closing ceremonies. Also an equestrian, he breeds and raises Quarter Horses for reining, competes non-professionally, and is involved in equestrian charity work. One of his horses, Smart and Shiny, is slated to be ridden by Marco Ricotta for Italy in Reining.
