June 15, 2009 -- Purina Horse Feed announced Chelsea Bland of Wichita, Kan., as the grand prize winner of the 2008 HOW® Horse Owner's Workshop Sweepstakes. Bland will receive a prize package including: a custom-built trailer provided by Twister Trailer; a Priefert 3-bay prefabricated horse barn; a $1,000 Wrangler® Jeans gift certificate and Wrangler Western Wear National Finals Rodeo Trip for two; a $1,000 Carhartt® gift certificate; one ton of Purina® Premium Horse Feed; and a generous assortment of horse products from other industry-leading companies.
"When I signed up, it never crossed my mind that I would win," said Bland. "When I was notified, I didn't believe it. I've been so impressed with everyone involved, and all of the companies have been great to work with."
Bland, who is working on her veterinary technician certification and going back to school in the fall to obtain a Master of Science in Dairy Nutrition Reproduction, says that she will find a use for all of her Purina HOW sweepstakes winnings. She's the proud owner of seven horses, including four ponies, one mule and two quarter horses.
"I'm currently working on the custom designs of my Twister Trailer and Priefert Horse Barn," said Bland. "I intend to use the Twister Trailer right away to haul my horses to chuck wagon races and to trail rides with my saddle club."
"I'm excited for Chelsea Bland," said David Solum, director of sales and marketing for Twister Trailer. "She is a young girl who is committed to furthering her education and has a passion for the horse industry. I hope ten years down the road, she is still using her Twister Trailer to haul her horses. I hope she enjoys it every day."
Marilyn Heldt, of Omaha, Neb., and Robin Aaronson, of Coal Valley, Ill., are the regional prize winners of the sweepstakes, both receiving a 2008 John Deere® Gator 620i XUV Utility Vehicle, a $1,000 Carhartt Gift Certificate and $250 in Wrangler apparel.
"For many years, Purina has worked with other industry-leading corporate partners to bring more value to HOW meetings," said Brant Gilbert, marketing manager, Purina Horse Business Group. "This value includes education about our partner's products, our partner's donations to the national sweepstakes prizes and thousands of door prizes which are given away each year at all of our HOW events. Our partners have some of the highest quality products on the market, and we feel it's important to share these great products with horse owners."
