Zenyatta, the champion racehorse that finished her career almost undefeated, was voted second to Olympic gold medal-winning American skier Lindsey Vonn as the Associated Press 2010 Female Athlete of the Year.

The award is determined by the members of the AP news agency. This is the second year in a row that Zenyatta was the runner-up for the award. Breaking the record for consecutive wins held by legendary racehorses Citation and Cigar, Zenyatta won the first 19 races of her career before losing by a head in her last race, the Breeders’ Cup Classic in November. The 6-year-old mare retired with a North American earnings record for female horses of more than $7.3 million. For more information on Zenyatta, click here.
